Developed as the earliest filtration equipment, filter press has evolved over the decades for its versatility and usage in the solid-liquid separation equipment. Industries from food processing to automotive waste management have been relying on filter press to provide dry cake and clear filtrate for multiple purpose.

Due to the application of pressure, filter press is able to produce significantly dryer cake as compared to other depth filtration equipment such as belt press and screw press. With approximately 10% dryer cakes (may even higher in certain application) filter press can produce cakes with approx. 33% less weight than belt or screw press. Thus, saving on significant disposal cost.

The main drawback is its batching process principal which hinder processes executed in continuous manner. Filtered cake has to be periodically discharged in order for new filtration sequence to commence.

Technological advancement has minimised this ‘downtime’ effect by equipping filter press with auto features such as self-cloth cleaning mechanism, automatic membrane compression which practically cut filtration time to 40% as compared to conventional recessed chamber filtration.
